Kitchen Fire

Painted on an 9″x12″ pressed canvas board, this is Beaker painted in the style of DC artist, Dana Ellyn.  Key Ellyn-esque elements include the striped wallpaper, the drone in the window, the wedding ring on the apron, the apples, the soon-to-be-dinner chicken, and of course,  the wine.

It will be part of a “Who Dunnit” show at the ArtDC Gallery in Hyattsville, MD.  Opening on February 9th, 2013, the show’s theme is that “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” where viewers will embark on a treasure hunt to determine if a piece was done by the original artist or somebody else.

This mini-painting was done for my husband and will live on his desk at work. It is on a 2″x3″ canvas purchased from Utrecht with its own little wooden easel stand.

Artpocalypse

Posted by:jlbock on Dec - 3 - 2012 - Filed under: Blog,Painting -

The Mayans have predicted the end of the world will come on December 21, 2012.  We’ll see about that, but the Artpocalypse is coming!  Join us December 21st  starting at 7PM at The Dunes in Columbia Heights to celebrate our final moments on earth while taking in an incredible art show with work inspired by the Apocalypse.  I’ll be one of several DC artists participating in the event.  Go to www.artpocalypse2012.com to find out more about the artists and work in the show.

The End of Beaker?

The End of Beaker?

My painting, “The End of Beaker?”, shows Beaker surrounded by doom and destruction as the Angels of the Apocalypse descend upon him. Heaven, nature, epic technological failures and space aliens are against him. The irony is, Beaker always thought that it would be zombies that got him in the end.

Meepvillain

Posted by:jlbock on Dec - 1 - 2012 - Filed under: Blog,Painting -

“Meepvillain” is a commissioned work for the patron’s husband whose favorite album is Madvillainy, a collaboration between rapper MF Doom and producer Madlib under the group name Madvillain. This was a departure from my usual work but I really enjoyed painting it and discovered the joy of metallic silver paint.

About Me?

Who doesn't love Beaker? I started painting in 2009 as a student of DC artist, Dana Ellyn. After experimenting with different painting subjects, I found a fondness for toys. After realizing I had tons of photos documenting my travels with a Beaker finger puppet, I started to paint Beaker. The rest is history. I hope you enjoy my art. Beaker is my muse.
